SUPPLEMENT OPTIONS
If you opted for supplement options during the Two-Week Gut Cleanse, then you probably still have them in your cabinets. I highly recommend you continue using them through the next four weeks. If you aren’t sure, talk with your doctor or healthcare practitioner for a more tailored approach. If you have persistent symptoms, you may need additional professional and/or supplemental support. Don’t worry, it’s common! The listed supplements below have been proven to be beneficial for most everyone.
This cleanse is highly effective on it's own! While you do not need supplementation to benefit from the gut cleanse, many individuals benefit from high quality supplementation. I use Fullscript as my online dispensary and offer 15% off all products all the time. You can explore all the gut health supplements below in the Fullscript Gut Health category, then choose your favorites. Or if you prefer, you can purchase the entire supplemental protocol HERE.
Choose one that has 25-75 billion CFUs (colony forming units) with as many different strains as possible. Brands that have a heavy focus on the Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria, are best. Be sure to store your probiotics in your refrigerator.
PROBIOTIC:
digestive enzymes:
Choose a formula that has a diverse amount of enzymes that will help you maximize the digestion and absorption of your meals. I particularly like enzymes that contain Betaine HCI, as it can lower the risk of autoimmune dysfunction and food sensitivities. Betaine HCI is beneficial for people who struggle with low stomach acid (most of us, unfortunately). I like the Pure Encapsulations brand for both options.
This supplement is wonderful for assisting in the rebuilding of the gut lining that has been eroded due to lifestyle, poor nutrition, stress, pollution etc. I have found the powders directly on the tongue are most effective, although there are chewable options and capsules available, if you prefer. It's important to be consistent with this supplement, so choose one that makes sense for you and use it until your symptoms subside.
LICORICE DGL:
This is the preferred fuel for the cells that line your gut. It's anti-catabolic, which means it helps to prevent the breaking down of cells prematurely. It improves cellular growth and regeneration, thereby improving leaky gut. I highly recommend starting this supplement and continuing until your leaky gut symptoms have passed.
L-GLUTAMINE:
Most people are deficient in magnesium. It’s an excellent supplement for most of us to incorporate because of its calming properties. It’s wonderful for muscle tension, stress, anxiety, depression and insomnia. However, it can also cause loose stools in some people. While this may be helpful for those with constipation, it’s not a benefit for those who struggle with diarrhea.
MAGNESIUM BIGLYCINATE:
New additions
Full of vitamins, minerals and amino acids, this is a soothing drink for your gut. It helps calm the inflammation and provides plenty of nutrients needed for restoration. I would definitely recommend this to those who have irritable bowels, leaky gut or systemic inflammation. Ready for some double healing? Try adding some bone broth to your miso soup!
BONE BROTH:
These are full of essential amino acids to help rebuild the gut lining, particularly glycine. I enjoy a scoop of my marine collagen peptides in my miso soup, bone broth or warming breakfast cereal. Click HERE for the link.
MARINE COLLAGEN PEPTIDES:
I love ashwagandha as a tincture to add to my water. It’s an adaptogen, which means that it’s helps manage stress in the body. As we talked about in the Two-Week Gut Cleanse, digestion is one of the heaviest forms of stress within the body. We are alleviating much of this stress during the program, but if you feel you need a little extra support, add 0.7-1.0 ml of ashwagandha to your water once or twice a day. Click HERE for the link.
